Seabob battery safety case for yacht storage and charging

Seabob · Fixed Battery

Seabob Battery Safety

Every Seabob runs on a fixed 0.8–1.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. Two certified storage and charging systems cover it: the Seabob’s own case, or the RAMBSS 1500 modular system.

Why Seabob Battery Safety Matters

A Seabob contains a high-capacity lithium-ion battery. Damage, overheating or unsuitable charging conditions can cause thermal runaway, releasing intense heat, smoke and toxic gases inside the yacht garage.

Safe handling should consider storage, charging, detection, ventilation and suppression together.

Two Seabob Safety Systems

The Seabob Safety Case is a self-standing, toy-specific solution with no bridge wiring. RAMBSS 1500 is a larger modular cabinet that can hold a Seabob upright and can also accommodate other electric water-toy batteries.

Rules Depend on Your Yacht

Flag, class, insurer, tonnage, commercial status and garage construction can all affect the correct setup. The official MGN 681 yacht guidance covers storage, charging and fire protection.

Tell us your Seabob count, available space and monitoring needs so we can recommend a suitable system.

Can a Seabob be charged inside the safety system?

Charging arrangements depend on the selected system and the yacht’s electrical and fire-safety plan. To ensure Seabob Battery safety, the installation should account for heat detection, ventilation, suppression and the manufacturer’s operating instructions rather than treating the cabinet as ordinary storage.

Does every yacht need the same Seabob battery box?

No. Requirements can change with flag state, class, insurer, tonnage, commercial use and garage construction. Ocean Premium reviews the vessel and equipment before recommending a Seabob battery safety solution.

What information is needed for a recommendation?

Provide the number of Seabobs, available garage dimensions, charging routine, vessel flag and commercial status. Also confirm whether bridge alarm monitoring is wanted and whether the yacht carries eFoils or other loose lithium-ion batteries.

Manufacturer’s Own Case

Seabob Safety Case

Drawer or Rotation · Self-standing
  • No wiring or bridge integration required — install and go
  • Two form factors: fully telescopic Safety Drawer, or quick-access Safety Case Rotation with a hanging system
  • Automatic extinguishing, degassing catalyst plate, and a temperature-resistant aluminium composite housing
  • Designed with MGN 681 in mind
  • The newer of the two systems to market — less independently tested than RAMBSS so far

Lloyd’s Register Approved

RAMBSS 1500

Raclan Maritime Battery Safety System · Modular
  • The only Li-ion battery safety box on the market with Lloyd’s Register Type Approval — also DMT TÜV Nord certified
  • The only RAMBSS module tall enough (1,400mm clear interior) to stand a Seabob (1,023mm) upright
  • The most tested, and most recently tested, of the Seabob storage options
  • Same module also takes eFoil and other loose batteries — one system if you carry both
  • Bridge/alarm integration is optional; an electrician will need to be onboard to install and commission the link if you want it
